Umrah planning: keep the visa, permit and travel package separate

An Umrah journey involves several approvals and bookings. Check the entry visa, Nusuk permit and package inclusions individually before paying.

An Umrah travel package, a visa and a pilgrimage permit answer different questions. A package describes the services you buy. A visa addresses entry to Saudi Arabia. The relevant permit and booking arrangements cover the pilgrimage activity. Keeping those records separate makes it easier to spot a missing step.

The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Umrah service describes an electronic visa process involving travel and accommodation details, supporting documents, insurance, review and approval. It also directs travellers to obtain the Umrah permit through Nusuk and to travel within the visa's validity.

Check what the package includes

Nusuk Umrah is supervised by the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah and displays licensed service providers. It distinguishes comprehensive packages with visa services from packages without visa services and custom options. A low advertised price may therefore exclude an item another package includes.

Compare the actual itinerary: arrival city, number of nights, hotel identity, transport between cities, meals, visa services and appointment arrangements. Ask the provider to explain any item described only as “subject to availability.” Keep the written terms and cancellation conditions with the payment receipt.

Check the permit independently

The ministry's permit service lists Nusuk as its channel. A confirmation for accommodation or a payment receipt should not be mistaken for the permit itself. Check the traveller's name and any assigned date or time on each issued record.

For families, confirm that every traveller has the appropriate entry and pilgrimage arrangements. If the group includes older relatives or anyone with mobility needs, resolve airport transfers and hotel access before travel rather than leaving them to an informal promise.

Finally, recheck the current season's official timetable and health requirements close to departure. Do not reuse last season's visa or departure dates from a forwarded message. This guide explains how to organise the documents; it does not announce a new Umrah rule or guarantee that a particular package is available to every nationality.
