How the calculation works

The Schengen short-stay rule allows non-EU visitors up to 90 days in any rolling 180-day period. This calculator marks every day you were in a Schengen country, then checks each day of your next trip by looking back 180 days, including that day. Your stay can continue only while that total is 90 days or fewer.

The calculation runs in your browser. The dates you enter are not sent to Advise Visa or stored anywhere.

Before you rely on the result

This is a planning aid. Border guards apply the official rules and decide on entry, and some nationals have additional rights under bilateral agreements with individual member states. Holders of a Schengen visa must also stay within the dates, entries and days shown on the visa sticker. For your official count, use the European Commission's short-stay calculator and keep records of your entry and exit stamps or EES records.

Frequently asked questions

How does the Schengen 90/180 rule work?

You can spend up to 90 days in the Schengen Area in any 180-day period. On every day of your stay, look back 180 days including that day and count the days you were in a Schengen country. The total must never be more than 90.

Do the entry and exit days count?

Yes. The day you arrive and the day you leave each count as a full day in the Schengen Area, even if you were there for only a few hours.

Does the 90-day count reset when I leave?

No. There is no reset. Days fall out of the count only once they are more than 180 days in the past, so a long stay early in the year can still limit a trip several months later.

Which countries count towards the 90 days?

Stays in any Schengen member state count together. Since 1 January 2025 that includes Bulgaria and Romania. Time in Ireland, Cyprus and non-Schengen countries such as the United Kingdom does not count.

Does a Schengen visa change the 90/180 rule?

The rule applies whether you are visa-exempt or hold a short-stay visa, but a visa also has its own validity dates, number of entries and permitted days. You must respect all of them.
