A document can be accurately translated yet still arrive in an incomplete application bundle. For a UK visitor application, plan the original and its translation together so a reviewer can identify what was translated and by whom.
What the official guide requires
Documents that are not in English or Welsh need a full translation that the Home Office can independently verify. The translator must confirm accuracy and include the translation date, their full name, signature and contact details. The visitor application page also requires certified translations.
These are UK visitor requirements. Do not assume that a translation accepted by a different embassy automatically meets them.
Check the package before paying
Ask the translator to explain what their service includes. Will they translate every relevant page, including stamps and notes? Will the certification and contact information be included? Agree how unclear handwriting or an unreadable seal will be handled instead of allowing information to be guessed.
These questions are a practical quality check, not a replacement for the official checklist. Keep the original scan beside the finished translation and check names, dates, amounts, account numbers and relationships carefully.
Make identification easy
A useful file name might identify the document, person and language without including a full passport number. Keep a simple index linking each original to its translation. If the same person's name appears differently across genuine records, explain the difference truthfully rather than altering a document to make the spellings match.
Do not crop out information merely because it is inconvenient. Translation is not an opportunity to change the evidence, improve a balance or replace an employment date.
Your next step
Use the two GOV.UK links below to confirm the current document requirements for your visitor application. Send the translator the requirements before commissioning the work, and check the completed bundle before uploading it. The translation makes the evidence understandable; it does not guarantee a visa decision.
