After a UAE residence permit is cancelled, the most useful date is the one that applies to your own immigration record. A claim that everyone receives six months can lead to an expensive mistake. ICP's cancellation service lists different grace periods by category.
Check the category behind the number
The service describes 180 days for specified groups, including Golden, Green and Blue Residence holders and certain family or other categories. It lists 90 days for skilled workers in levels 1–3 and property owners, 60 days for permits issued with a guarantor or host, and 30 days for other categories.
These categories need to be applied to the actual case. Ask the issuing authority to confirm which category and deadline are recorded for you, especially if a permit type or dependent situation is unclear.
Separate the cancellation date from the final deadline
Keep the cancellation confirmation and check whether the stated date is the cancellation itself or the last day of the permitted grace period. ICP's service-fines section lists AED 50 per day after the applicable grace period ends.
Do not infer an extension from a pending job offer or an informal promise that a new employer will complete the process soon.
Include dependent permits in the plan
ICP says permits sponsored for family members must be cancelled before the worker's residence is cancelled, or placed on hold for a limited period subject to conditions and fees. Coordinate that sequence with the authority instead of treating every family member as an independent paperwork exercise.
For practical planning, create one row for each person: permit type, cancellation or expiry date, confirmed final date and next action. Retain the official confirmation used to fill it in.
Your next step
Read the ICP cancellation conditions below. Confirm your record with ICP or, for a Dubai-issued case, the relevant GDRFA service. This article is not a personal grace-period calculation. If the remaining time is short, obtain an official answer before booking travel or relying on an employer's estimate.
