If you renew your passport after receiving a New Zealand visa, the approval does not automatically move to the new passport number. Check the transfer process before travelling, even where there was never a physical sticker in the old passport.
Both labels and eVisas are linked to a passport
Immigration New Zealand says visa records must be updated when the passport changes. Its transfer guidance covers physical labels and eVisas. A mismatch can delay travel, so carrying an old approval letter without arranging the required update is not the solution described by the authority.
The online form also covers replacements after loss, theft, damage or a name change. Follow the instructions for the reason your document changed.
Choose the official transfer process
The transfer page recommends an eVisa as the quickest transfer option and states that an eVisa transfer has no application fee. A physical visa label carries a fee. Check the live instructions for required scans and any case-specific evidence.
A transfer updates the link to your document. Do not assume it creates a new visa category or automatically gives additional stay rights.
Check the result before departure
As a practical check, place the new passport and updated eVisa details side by side. Verify the identity and passport information, then review the visa's dates and conditions separately. Keep the transfer confirmation with your travel records.
INZ instructs eVisa holders to print the letter and bring it when travelling. It also says to contact the authority if the details are wrong. Allow time for that check instead of discovering an error at the airport.
Your next step
Open the transfer guidance below, then use the linked official application form. This article concerns a New Zealand visa; do not assume an NZeTA follows exactly the same update procedure. If you hold a travel authority rather than a visa, check the guidance for that document before submitting the wrong request.
