Applicants who already have approval in principle for an Active Investor Plus or Parent Retirement Resident Visa have been asked to submit their investment evidence early if they hope to travel over New Zealand’s Christmas and summer holiday period. Immigration New Zealand issued the summer-travel advisory on 15 October.
The message is about completing an existing application, rather than a new investment visa category or a guaranteed fast-track service. INZ says financial documentation can take time to assess and warns that it cannot promise a resident visa before a proposed departure date.
Build a readable financial trail
The advisory identifies several common evidence needs: an explanation of the transfer, records showing where the money was held, currency-conversion evidence, bank transfer records, and proof of where the funds are now held or invested. Applicants should also explain temporary investments where relevant and show that the final investment meets the visa rules.
One practical approach is to organise the documents around a dated transfer timeline. Match each payment to the sending account, conversion, receiving account and investment confirmation. An index and consistent filenames make it easier to spot an unexplained gap before the evidence is submitted.
Approval in principle is one stage
The Active Investor Plus Visa sets out a staged application process. The holiday advisory specifically reminds applicants that investment visas have separate processing measures for approval in principle and for the later grant stage after investment evidence is supplied. A headline processing time should therefore be checked against the stage the applicant has actually reached.
Anyone with a fixed travel date should record three things separately: the outstanding immigration requirements, the expected timing of financial documents and the proposed itinerary. A flight booking does not demonstrate that the investment conditions have been met, and an approaching holiday does not remove the need for assessment.
If grant looks unlikely before departure, INZ suggests considering other visa options that may be available. Eligibility and permitted activities must be checked for that alternative independently. Before using a different travel route, confirm what it allows and whether it affects the remaining steps in the residence application. The strongest response to the October reminder is an organised, complete evidence file submitted with enough time for questions.
