Estonia’s D visa can allow a temporary stay of up to 365 days within twelve consecutive months. For remote workers, the application needs evidence of the teleworking arrangement as well as the general long-stay visa documents.
Explain the overseas relationship
The Foreign Ministry’s purpose-specific checklist asks applicants to prove that their duties can be performed independently of location using telecommunications. It also asks for evidence of continued employment with a foreign employer, business activity through a foreign company in which the applicant has holdings, or services mainly supplied to overseas customers under contracts.
The teleworking checklist calls for six months of legal-income evidence showing the amount, regularity and sources. Do not substitute the general D-visa page’s shorter income-history reference for the purpose-specific requirement. Prepare the fuller teleworking record and confirm the applicable financial threshold with the handling mission.
Arrange the correct appointment
The ministry directs applicants to apply in person at an Estonian representation handling visas in their country of residence, or at an eligible Police and Border Guard service point in Estonia. Where no local representation handles D visas, confirm an appointment with the appropriate alternative mission before travelling there.

Prepare a compliant passport, application form, photograph, medical insurance, travel evidence and purpose documents. Foreign public documents require the ministry’s specified legalisation or apostille and translation into Estonian or English.
A D visa does not give unlimited time elsewhere in Schengen: the ministry states a separate 90-days-in-180 limit for other member states. Keep your Estonia stay plan distinct from any wider European travel itinerary.
