Croatia’s digital nomad permission covers eligible third-country nationals working through communications technology for a foreign employer or their own foreign-registered company. It excludes work or services for Croatian employers.
Use the current stay rules
The Ministry of the Interior now states a maximum of 18 months, although a shorter period may be granted. Where an extension is available, apply no later than 60 days before expiry; the published extension limit is six months. Do not assume an initial grant automatically lasts the maximum period.
The ministry currently lists minimum monthly support of €3,622.50, with additional requirements for family members. Check the live figure when applying because it is linked to average salaries.
Separate application from permission to remain
An online application does not automatically extend a visa-required applicant’s permitted short stay. Check the relevant consular and entry-visa steps before planning to wait in Croatia. Family-reunification applications must follow approval of the principal digital nomad’s stay.
Prepare for arrival
The application requires work evidence, insurance, funds, relevant criminal-record documentation and an intended Croatian address. After entry, the ministry requires address registration within three days and an in-person biometric residence card process.
Keep an application timeline alongside your travel calendar: submission, decision, any entry visa, arrival registration and expiry are separate milestones. Save the ministry’s current instructions with your application records so an old travel blog does not become your working checklist.
