Checked on 20 October 2026. Before arranging a Jordan visit from the Gulf, find out whether your case needs approval before travel. Living in a GCC country and holding citizenship of that country are different facts to provide during this check.
Start with the ministry's classification
Jordan's Ministry of Interior publishes separate restricted and non-restricted nationality classifications. In that terminology, restricted means prior approval is needed; non-restricted means it is not.
The restricted list includes, among others, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal and the Philippines. Use the list as a starting point for a case-specific enquiry, not as a substitute for checking how your current residence documents or other circumstances affect the available route.
Prior approval is also a different question from whether a visa fee is payable. Do not infer visa-free admission solely from a non-restricted classification.
Use the right electronic service
The ministry separates visit, transit, study and work visa applications. Its electronic-services guidance says visa applications are submitted from outside Jordan and can be followed through the applicant's account.
If an in-person interview is required, the guidance directs applicants to the nearest Jordanian embassy and tells them to bring the electronic application number. An online application therefore does not always eliminate an embassy step.
Ask a precise question
Before committing to a non-refundable booking, provide the official service with your passport nationality, GCC residence country, residence expiry and travel purpose. Ask which route applies and whether approval must be issued before departure.
Keep the answer and application reference together. For a family, check each traveller rather than assuming the principal traveller's result covers everyone. Any attraction pass or hotel reservation should sit alongside this immigration check, not replace it.
