Japan has announced the next stage of its pre-entry tuberculosis screening programme for Indonesian nationals. The notice gives two different planned dates: screening at designated clinics from 2 November 2026, and mandatory submission of a TB Clearance Certificate for covered Certificate of Eligibility or visa applications from 4 January 2027.

Those dates should not be collapsed into a claim that every Indonesian tourist needs a certificate from November.

Establish whether the application is covered

JPETS primarily concerns designated categories of medium- and long-term residence, with further scope and exceptions set out in the programme's official guidance. Check nationality, intended residence status and any applicable exemption before arranging an appointment.

This article concerns the immigration paperwork and timetable. Questions about a person's health or appropriate testing should be addressed to the designated clinic or a qualified clinician.

Use a designated panel clinic

The official clinic page says only certificates issued by designated panel clinics are accepted as official JPETS certificates. Its Indonesia section, updated on 9 October 2026, says clinics will be added as they become ready.

Before paying, verify that the provider appears on the current official list and ask what documents it needs. A general health check from another provider should not be assumed to satisfy this specific requirement.

Coordinate the dates with the application

Our preparation recommendation is to build a timeline with the employer, school or other party helping with the Japanese application. Record the intended filing date, the relevant implementation date and the clinic's appointment process.

If the planned submission moves into January, revisit the requirement rather than relying on an earlier checklist. Keep identity information consistent across the passport, appointment and application.

The official notice labels the rollout dates as planned. Recheck the JPETS website before booking and again before filing for any implementation update. Planning ahead is useful; an agent's claim that it can bypass the designated-clinic process is not a substitute for the required certificate.
