Hong Kong can be a short-break option for eligible Indian passport holders, but the visa-free route normally requires successful pre-arrival registration, known as PAR. The Immigration Department's online registration service is free.
Treat registration as a preparation step before travel, rather than something an airline booking has already arranged.
Understand the two time limits
Eligible applicants need an Indian passport with at least six months' validity and a planned visit of no more than 14 days. A successful PAR is valid for six months and can support multiple visits, subject to ordinary entry requirements. Each visit remains limited to up to 14 days.
The registration validity is not permission to remain continuously for six months. For a longer visit or a different purpose, check the appropriate visa route.
Carry the matching passport and slip
The Immigration Department requires the successful notification slip to be printed on blank white A4 paper, checked and signed. It must accompany the same valid passport used for registration. Passport replacement or changed personal particulars require a fresh registration under the official instructions.
Keep the printed slip with the passport and retain a secure digital copy as a backup. A screenshot should not be treated as a substitute for the specified paper document.
If registration is unsuccessful
The official guidance directs Indian travellers who cannot complete PAR to apply for an entry visa directly to Hong Kong's Immigration Department. Do not respond by changing truthful passport details or buying a promise of guaranteed registration from an intermediary.
Direct airside transit without leaving the airport transit area is treated separately; confirm that the actual connection fits that situation.
Before paying for a trip, create a simple record of the permission being used, its passport number and the intended arrival and departure dates. Recheck the record after any passport renewal. Finally, remember that a successful registration does not guarantee admission: the traveller still needs to satisfy the border assessment.
