Before starting a job in Australia, check your actual current visa conditions. A statement that a visa is approved is not enough to establish whether work is permitted, or whether limits apply to the particular work you plan to do.
Check the visa that is in effect
Home Affairs' Visa Entitlement Verification Online service, known as VEVO, shows the current visa, relevant expiry and arrival dates, period of stay and conditions. It does not show details of a visa that is not yet in effect. An example is a bridging visa where the existing substantive visa has not yet expired.
This distinction matters if you hold more than one grant notice. Do not choose whichever letter has the most convenient work conditions.
Read the conditions before interpreting them
Use the official condition information to understand any restriction shown. If the wording is unclear, resolve it before accepting the work. VEVO is a verification service, not a way to change a restriction.
Home Affairs also allows holders to send proof of conditions to others. Registered organisations can check a holder's details with permission. Use that process rather than handing an employer unrestricted access to your immigration account.
Match the evidence to the proposed job
For your own records, note when you checked VEVO and what the employer is asking you to do. Compare the proposed start date and work arrangement with the conditions shown. If your status later changes, check again rather than keeping an old screenshot as permanent proof.
An employer's willingness to offer a shift does not establish your immigration permission. Equally, immigration status does not remove basic workplace protections; Home Affairs links to information about those rights.
Your next step
Open the Home Affairs VEVO page below and follow its holder instructions. Save or share the result through the supported route. If the record is missing, the details are wrong or a condition needs clarification, use Home Affairs' guidance before relying on the result for a new job.
