A job offer becomes dangerous when excitement replaces verification. The company may exist, the salary may sound reasonable, and the letter may carry a convincing stamp. None of those details establishes that the person contacting you represents that employer.
Treat an unexpected request for a recruitment payment as a reason to pause, especially when the caller says the vacancy will disappear within hours.
Confirm that the company made the offer
Find the employer's website independently and contact its recruitment team through the details published there. Ask whether the vacancy, recruiter and offer reference are genuine. Do not rely on a phone number printed only on the offer letter: it could lead back to the sender.
For private-sector employment handled by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, the UAE Government describes a formal offer and work-permit process. Its fraud guidance directs applicants to verify the offer using the ministry's enquiry service. If the employer falls under another authority, ask that authority how to verify the relevant documents.
Separate recruitment charges from a convincing story
Dubai's government guidance states that employers bear recruitment expenses under the UAE Labour Law. A recruiter asking you to buy the job, fund its work-permit processing or pay a refundable recruitment deposit needs more than an explanation over chat.
Request an itemised written demand showing the recipient, purpose and basis for each charge. Check the demand with the relevant employment authority before paying. Renaming a recruitment charge as insurance or a reservation does not explain why you should owe it.
Check what you are actually being offered
Compare the confirmed offer with the proposed contract: employer name, occupation, salary, location and benefits should tell the same story. Keep your own copies rather than accepting a promise that the recruiter will hold everything.
A visit or tourist visa does not itself permit employment in the UAE. Do not begin work because someone promises to arrange the correct permission later. Verify the required permission for your situation before making that decision.
If you have already paid
Save the advertisement, messages, documents and payment receipt. Contact your bank or payment provider promptly, explain the suspected deception and ask what recovery options remain; a refund is not guaranteed. Report the matter through the relevant authority's independently located channels.
Before resigning or borrowing money for travel, obtain confirmation from the real employer and the relevant government service. A genuine opportunity should survive those checks.
