A Singapore visa may remain valid after your permission to stay on a particular visit ends. Before changing a flight, check the electronic visit pass issued at entry. Its authorised stay is the date you need to manage.
Find your actual stay limit
ICA explains that visa validity and the period of stay are separate. The visit pass issued at the checkpoint determines your permitted stay. ICA's extension page links to its visit-pass validity tool and e-Pass enquiry service.
Save the result securely and put the relevant date in your calendar. Do not substitute the expiry of an entry visa or an arrival-card submission for this check.
Apply through the correct route
For an ICA-issued short-term visit pass, an online extension application can be made when fourteen days or less remain. Walk-in applications are not accepted. Approval and the additional period are assessed individually.
A local sponsor is required in certain situations and for listed nationalities, including Afghan passport holders. Check the current sponsor conditions and document requirements before starting. A pass issued by the Ministry of Manpower follows its own route.
Prepare a clear reason and departure plan
As practical preparation, gather the reason for the request and evidence relevant to it. If a family matter has changed, explain the dates. If medical treatment is involved, follow ICA's specific medical-document instructions rather than relying on a travel agent's general letter.
Keep your original departure plan usable while waiting. An application receipt is not an approved extension. ICA advises departing by the existing expiry if the necessary extension has not been secured; follow any payment instructions attached to approval.
Your next step
Start with the official ICA extension page below. Check the e-Pass, sponsor requirement and application window, then use the e-Service linked there. Avoid services promising an automatic extension, and remember that extending a visit does not itself create permission to work.
