Checked on 21 October 2026. Germany's Opportunity Card, or Chancenkarte, is a route for eligible people to search for qualified employment. For UAE residents, the sensible starting point is the German missions' national-visa checklist, followed by an assessment of qualifications and funding. It is not a guaranteed job offer.

Which qualification route applies?

The official Make it in Germany procedure distinguishes applicants with a qualification recognised in Germany from applicants relying on eligible foreign qualifications and the points system. The latter must meet the relevant baseline conditions and score at least six points.

For the points route, the official overview specifies German at A1 or English at B2 as the minimum language alternatives. Do not begin by counting age or work-experience points while leaving qualification recognition and language evidence unresolved. A points calculator is an assessment aid, not a visa approval.

How much money must you demonstrate?

The official 2026 overview gives a blocked-account benchmark of at least €1,091 per month, with a formal declaration of commitment as an alternative. For 12 months, that monthly figure amounts to €13,092; this is a calculation for planning, not a new government fee.

The German missions' funding guidance distinguishes the amount needed for different visa purposes. Use the benchmark and acceptable evidence for your own route. Budget separately for travel, insurance, accommodation setup and other costs rather than assuming the demonstrated living funds cover every upfront expense.

Applying while resident in the UAE

The German missions' national-visa guidance says applications depend on habitual residence. Its UAE guidance describes an Emirates ID issued at least six months before application as the relevant residence measure. Check jurisdiction before spending money on an appointment or a document package.

The Opportunity Card checklist directs applicants to the Consular Services Portal. It requests evidence including qualifications, UAE residence, financial means, a CV and a reasoned job-search plan. It also calls for appropriate medical cover; the local checklist says ordinary travel insurance is insufficient for this route.

Make the job-search plan specific

As a preparation exercise, identify the occupations, employers and locations that fit your qualifications. Keep genuine correspondence from applications or enquiries and explain how your experience connects to the roles you want. Avoid buying a generic motivation letter with claims you cannot support.

If your profession is regulated, check professional authorisation requirements as well as immigration eligibility. The local checklist notes that such professions can require permission to practise.

Before applying, compare the current portal checklist with your file and resolve missing evidence. Permission to seek a job, finding a suitable position and obtaining the appropriate permission for that employment are separate stages.
